FCK strengthens defense with experienced Dane Asger Sørensen

FC Copenhagen has bolstered its defense by signing experienced Danish player Asger Sørensen from Sparta Prague. The 30-year-old defender joins FCK on a three-year deal, marking his return to Danish football after spending his entire adult career abroad.

Sørensen expressed his ambition to win titles with his new club, stating, "For me, it's not about coming home, it's about ambition and development. I have goals and dreams I want to achieve, and I have chosen FCK precisely because of the ambitions."

He added his eagerness to play in Parken and in European competitions, noting he has never played in the Danish Superliga before. Sørensen began his youth career in Denmark before moving to Austria's RB Salzburg in 2014, followed by stints in Germany and then Sparta Prague in 2022, where he became a prominent player.

FCK's Football Director, Kristjaan Speakman, emphasized Sørensen's aerial ability as a crucial factor. "We wanted to sign a physically strong center-back, and Asger has those qualities. But his profile offers much more. His ball skills are at a high level, and his leadership qualities will benefit our squad," Speakman said, noting the lengthy negotiation process.

Head Coach Bo Svensson is pleased with the increased competition in central defense. "Asger brings experience and composure to our backline. He is calm with both his feet and his head, and he takes great responsibility for the team. He is also extremely forward-thinking defensively," Svensson stated. Sørensen was called up to the Danish national team in October 2024 but has not yet debuted.
