“Fearless, dominant”: Austria defender Kevin Danso joins Sunderland on loan from Tottenham

Kevin Danso has left Tottenham for Sunderland, looking for the regular playing time he has not secured in north London. The Austria centre-back joined the club on loan on the final day of the English transfer window.

The agreement runs until the end of the season. English media report that Sunderland must then buy Danso for £25 million, or about €29.2 million, if the reported condition is triggered. That fee would make him the most expensive Austrian footballer to date.

At Sunderland, Danso will join a squad that includes Granit Xhaka, Thomas Meunier and Brian Brobbey. The north-east club finished seventh in the Premier League and will start the season as a Europa League participant.

Danso, an established member of the Austria team, now has the chance to prove himself with the “Black Cats.” The move gives him a new route to regular football while leaving open the possibility of a permanent transfer.
