Febrie Adriansyah's Legal Team Claims TPPU Corruption Case Violates Fair Trial Principles

The legal team representing Febrie Adriansyah, a former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes, has asserted that the ongoing money laundering (TPPU) case against him violates fundamental principles of due process and fair trial. Alfons Kurnia, one of Adriansyah's lawyers, stated after a hearing at the South Jakarta District Court that procedural justice has been compromised.

Kurnia specifically raised concerns about the investigators' authority to designate a suspect, arguing it should adhere to the Attorney General's Regulations. He questioned whether individuals without the proper authority can legally name someone as a suspect. Furthermore, the legal team scrutinized the subjective and objective reasons behind Adriansyah's detention, questioning the assertion that he might flee or tamper with evidence.

The defense emphasized that a fair trial must prioritize the protection of a suspect's human rights over solely pursuing conviction. They are calling on the presiding judge to thoroughly review the alleged procedural irregularities and ensure the legal process aligns with due process principles. The Attorney General's Office, however, previously stated that Adriansyah's detention was based on inconsistencies found between his testimony and the investigation's findings.
