Fecal Contamination at Popular Korčula Beach; Swimming Not Recommended

Authorities have issued a warning against swimming at Bilin Žal beach in Lumbarda, located on the island of Korčula, due to temporary fecal contamination. The Dubrovnik-Neretva County Public Health Institute detected elevated levels of Escherichia coli bacteria during its sixth regular water quality assessment.

The institute confirmed that the results for the bathing water at Bilin Žal exceeded the limit values for E. coli. Consequently, swimming is not recommended until the contamination is resolved. This situation poses a public health concern, as E. coli can indicate the presence of harmful pathogens in the water.

Water sampling will continue at the beach until the contamination is cleared. The relevant environmental protection inspectorates and other authorities have been informed of the situation. The public is advised to adhere to the no-swimming recommendation to avoid potential health risks associated with contaminated water.
