Federal Government Hails Abia Governor Otti as State Hands Over First Nigerian Air Force Complex

The federal government has lauded Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti for his administration's initiative in constructing and donating the first Nigerian Air Force Administrative Complex in Umuahia. The facility was officially transferred to the Air Force Chief of Staff, Air Marshal Kelvin Aneke, and the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd.), on Friday, July 31, 2026.

This gesture transcends politics. It is a defining contribution to national defence and stability and a trailblazing legacy that will bear your name in the annals of Nigeria’s security architecture.

Governor Otti stated that the project underscores his administration's commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the state. He described the establishment of the Air Force presence as a "dream come true," signifying the completion of the deployment of all three branches of Nigeria's armed forces in Abia. This includes the Nigerian Army's Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Barracks in Ohafia and the Nigerian Navy College of Accounts and Finance in Owerinta.

In my nine to ten months as Chief of Air Staff, this is about the first time a Governor has called me and handed over infrastructure of this magnitude. He has taken a huge burden off my shoulders.

Air Marshal Aneke hailed the complex as a historic milestone that will bolster security and socio-economic development in the Southeast region. He noted that this is the first time in his tenure that a governor has provided infrastructure of such magnitude, significantly easing the burden on the Air Force. The Minister of Defence, General Musa, commended Governor Otti's leadership, stating that his actions speak louder than words.

For us, the right to security for our people, whether they are residents or visitors, is non-negotiable.

The newly handed-over complex is equipped with an auditorium, conference hall, clinic, armoury, offices, canteen, guardroom, gatehouse, and an observatory post. Governor Otti assured the Air Force of continued state support for its operations in Abia, emphasizing the non-negotiable right to security for all residents and visitors.
