Federal Government offices to pay salaries every 15 days

Employees of all federal government offices in Nepal will now be paid salaries on a semi-monthly basis, receiving their pay every 15 days. The Office of the Financial Comptroller General has officially informed all relevant Treasury and Accounts Controller Offices, the Pension Management Office, and the Kumari Chowk and Central Tahasil Office about this new provision.

The decision to implement bi-weekly salary payments originated from the Ministry of Finance back in Baisakh (mid-April to mid-May). However, the plan faced a delay due to the time required to develop the necessary systems for its execution. The office finally made the decision on August 17th to proceed with the 15-day payment cycle, ensuring that payments are processed promptly after each 15-day period concludes.

This new policy extends beyond basic salaries, as allowances will also be disbursed on a semi-monthly schedule. Treasury and Accounts Controller Offices have been instructed to prepare for these payments whenever federal agencies under their purview request fund releases. The program initially began its pilot phase within the Ministry of Finance itself.

Although the intention was to roll out the system to all federal agencies within the current fiscal year, the implementation was postponed by approximately one month due to the system development timeline. The completion of the necessary technological infrastructure has now paved the way for the nationwide adoption of the semi-monthly salary payment system.
