Song Se-ra, a dominant force in women's épée fencing, is setting her sights on gold at the upcoming 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games. The 33-year-old athlete, who recently reclaimed the world champion title, expressed peak confidence in her current form and skill level. "My condition and skills are currently at their highest level. My confidence is also very high," Song stated in a recent interview at the Jincheon National Training Center.

Fencing has historically been a strong medal-generating sport for South Korea at the Asian Games. Since the 1998 Bangkok Games, the Korean team has secured overall victory in the sport in six out of seven tournaments, with their only slip to second place occurring in 2006. With 52 gold medals, South Korea leads the all-time medal standings in Asian Games fencing.

Song's recent triumph at the World Championships in Hong Kong marked her return to the top after winning the title in 2022. This victory made her the first Korean fencer, male or female, in history to achieve two individual world championship titles.
