Fenerbahçe opens Süper Lig season against Gençlerbirliği

Fenerbahçe kicks off their 2026-2027 Trendyol Süper Lig campaign with an away match against Gençlerbirliği at Eryaman Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 9:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on beIN Sports.

Adding an international flavor to the officiating, Andrew Donaldson Dallas from the Scottish Football Association will serve as the VAR referee for the match. Oğuzhan Aksu will be the on-field referee, assisted by Esat Sancaktar and Osman Gökhan Bilir.

Fenerbahçe enters the league season with momentum, having already advanced through two qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League. The team secured a 1-0 win at home against Poland's Gornik Zabrze and drew 1-1 away to advance. They followed this by defeating Sturm Graz of Austria 2-0 at home and 1-0 away to reach the playoff round. Overall, Fenerbahçe has recorded three wins and one draw in their four official matches this season and is targeting a three-point start in the league.

Gençlerbirliği, playing their 50th season in the Süper Lig, finished 14th last season with 34 points, narrowly avoiding relegation after a coaching change. Under coach Metin Diyadin, they secured two crucial wins at the end of the season to remain in the top flight. The match will also feature several new signings for Fenerbahçe, including Nathan Ake, Vedat Muriqi, and Mason Greenwood, with Romelu Lukaku potentially making his debut if his paperwork is finalized. Lukaku's father, Roger Lukaku, previously played for Gençlerbirliği.
