Ferry Services Suspended from Rafina and Lavrio Ports Due to Strong Winds

Strong winds, reaching up to 8 and locally 9 Beaufort, are causing significant disruptions to ferry services in the Aegean Sea, leading to sailing bans from the ports of Rafina and Lavrio. The adverse weather conditions have forced cancellations and modifications to numerous routes, impacting travel plans for many.

While services to the Saronic Islands are currently operating as scheduled, routes departing from Piraeus are experiencing changes. Specifically, the 'Blue Star Paros,' scheduled to depart for Syros, Tinos, and Mykonos at 07:30, has been canceled. Similarly, the 'Super Speed 4' service to Paros, Naxos, and Koufonisi will not operate.

According to the Hellenic Coast Guard and ferry operators, some Piraeus departures will proceed, but with altered itineraries and port calls. The safety of passengers remains paramount, with decisions on route execution or modification being continuously reassessed based on the evolving weather conditions. A further evaluation is expected after 11 a.m., with updated information to be provided.

Despite the disruptions, Piraeus port is experiencing high traffic, with 21 ship departures scheduled, expecting to carry 22,894 passengers to the Aegean islands. Additionally, 35 high-speed ferry and 25 conventional ferry services are planned for the Saronic Gulf, with 7,632 passengers booked. Passengers are strongly advised to stay in constant communication with ferry companies and local port authorities for real-time updates on their specific journeys.
