FG begins rehabilitation of 13 police training institutions

The Federal Government has initiated the rehabilitation of 13 police training institutions nationwide, with contracts awarded and 80 percent of contractors having received their letters. This move is part of broader efforts to strengthen the nation's security apparatus.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, chairing the 160th National Economic Council (NEC) meeting, stressed the importance of sustained economic reforms. He urged the council to ensure these reforms translate into tangible improvements such as job creation, increased purchasing power, enhanced business confidence, and better living conditions for Nigerians. Shettima highlighted that macroeconomic progress must be felt at the household level to gain political significance.

Macroeconomic progress must therefore continue its passage into jobs, purchasing power, business confidence and stronger subnational economies, because numbers become politically meaningful when citizens recognise themselves in their improvement.

Shettima emphasized that a government's credibility is built on its commitment to seeing policies through, stating, "There is no doubt that a serious government is measured by the matters it refuses to abandon." He advised the council to maintain focus on existing programs rather than allowing new priorities to overshadow them, framing continuity as a form of accountability. The Vice President reminded the council of President Bola Tinubu's directive to convert policy into observable outcomes for Nigerians.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State briefed journalists after the meeting, confirming the award of contracts for the police institutions' rehabilitation. He noted that the council received updates on Nigeria's reclassification to frontier market status by FTSE Russell. The rehabilitation projects are expected to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of police training across the country.

This afternoon, during the National Economic Council meeting, the council called for an update on the rehabilitation of police training institutions across Nigeria, and the council was made to understand that contracts have been awarded for the rehabilitation of the 13 police training institutions, and 80 per cent of contractors have received their award letters.
