FG commends Poland for supporting Nigerian students displaced by Ukraine war

Nigeria's Federal Government has lauded the Republic of Poland for its support to Nigerian students displaced by the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Foreign Affairs Minister, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, characterized the assistance as a significant demonstration of bilateral solidarity during a meeting with Poland's Deputy Prime Minister, Krzysztof Gawkowski, in Abuja.

Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu stated that Poland has been instrumental in ensuring that many young Nigerians could continue their studies despite the disruptions caused by the war. She noted that education is a vital pillar of the bilateral relationship between Nigeria and Poland, highlighting existing exchange programs where Nigerians study in Polish universities and Polish lecturers teach in Nigerian institutions.

Education is a vital pillar of our bilateral relations. We thank Poland for supporting Nigerian students affected by the conflict in Ukraine. This assistance has ensured that many young Nigerians could continue their studies despite the disruption.

Reaffirming the strong Nigeria-Poland relations, which began in 1962, the minister announced plans to expand cooperation across various sectors. These include artificial intelligence, digital transformation, agriculture, defense, infrastructure, education, culture, and tourism. Nigeria also seeks deeper collaboration on intelligence sharing, cybersecurity, and counterterrorism efforts.

Deputy Prime Minister Gawkowski acknowledged Nigeria as a strategic partner and a leading economic force in Africa. He indicated that Nigeria's economic reforms under President Bola Tinubu's "Renewed Hope Agenda" have enhanced the ease of doing business, improved fiscal transparency, and attracted foreign investment, creating incentives for Polish firms to increase their presence in Nigeria.
