FG flags off N178bn Kaduna highway reconstruction

Nigeria's Federal Government has officially commenced the reconstruction of the 122.89-kilometer Kaduna (Mando)-Birnin Gwari Road, a significant infrastructure project valued at N178.116 billion. The initiative aims to revitalize one of the nation's most crucial, yet long-neglected, transport corridors, with expectations of bolstering security, enhancing agricultural output, and stimulating regional trade.

I join the Emir of Birnin Gwari and the good people of Kaduna State in praying for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We pray that God grants him good health and wisdom to complete his first term successfully and, by His grace, a second term as well.

President Bola Tinubu, represented by Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani, marked the project's groundbreaking, emphasizing that it fulfills a key campaign pledge. He highlighted his administration's dedication to delivering essential infrastructure nationwide. The road, stretching from Mando near the Kaduna International Airport to the Niger State boundary, is poised to reconnect communities that have endured years of insecurity and inadequate road networks. It also offers one of the shortest routes linking Northern Nigeria with Lagos and other southwestern economic hubs.

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, lauded the project as a major achievement within the Federal Government's infrastructure renewal program. He asserted that the reconstruction would strengthen national security, reduce transportation expenses, and unlock the region's economic potential. Umahi praised President Tinubu for his promise-keeping and Governor Sani for his persistent advocacy for the road's strategic importance. "The commitment made in November 2022 to reconstruct the Birnin Gwari Road has today become a reality with the official flag-off of this project," Umahi stated, adding that "The President rewards loyalty, believes in fairness and is committed to equitable development across every part of Nigeria."

The minister further noted that the project aims to transform the corridor, historically associated with insecurity and banditry, into a vital economic artery connecting multiple states. "Today, we are flagging off the reconstruction of the 122.89-kilometre Kaduna (Mando)-Birnin Gwari Road at a contract sum of N178.116bn," he said. "This is a strategic corridor linking Kaduna to Niger, Kwara, Osun, Oyo and Lagos, making it one of the shortest routes between Northern Nigeria and the country’s commercial capital."
