FG unveils mobile learning initiative for female teachers

Nigeria has launched a significant mobile learning initiative designed to enhance the professional development of teachers, with a particular focus on empowering women in the education sector. This program is a collaborative effort between the Federal Ministry of Education, the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (UNESCO-IICBA), and the Pan-African University (PAU).

The initiative commenced with a three-day Master Training Programme in Abuja, equipping teachers and school leaders with innovative mobile learning tools. The program, themed 'Empowering Female Teachers and School Leaders through Integrating Mobile-based Learning in the Pan-African Virtual and Electronic University (PAVEU) Initiative,' will run from July 21 to July 23, 2026.

The Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the UNESCO International Institute for Capacity Building in Africa (UNESCO-IICBA) and the Pan-African University (PAU), has commenced a three-day Master Training Programme to strengthen teacher professional development through innovative mobile learning technologies.

Funded by the Government of Japan, the initiative extends beyond Nigeria, targeting Algeria, Cameroon, Kenya, and South Sudan. Its core objective is to expand access to continuous professional development for educators across these five African nations. The program is specifically designed to address persistent challenges that hinder teachers' access to training, such as inadequate infrastructure, geographical limitations, and time constraints.

By leveraging mobile technology, the initiative offers a flexible and accessible platform for learning. Educators can access quality resources anytime and anywhere through a low-data, offline-friendly system. This approach aligns with Nigeria's broader efforts to integrate digital education reforms and improve learning standards through continuous professional development.
