Fierce roof fire in Deurne spreads to another home, smoke visible for miles

A severe roof fire erupted in Deurne on Tuesday evening, quickly spreading to a neighboring property and generating a thick smoke plume visible across a wide area.

The blaze began around 7 p.m. at the rear of a terraced house on Van Dornestraat. Authorities suspect that roofing work carried out earlier in the day may have been the cause.

Fanned by the wind, the intense flames engulfed the back of the house and then jumped to the adjacent property on Bisschoppenhoflaan, which runs parallel to Van Dornestraat. The resulting dark smoke was seen from as far away as Linkeroever, Schoten, and Wuustwezel, with the fire brigade also receiving numerous reports from visitors at the Sinksenfoor funfair.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. Firefighters worked to contain the blaze, but the full extent of the damage to both homes remains to be determined, and residents may be temporarily displaced.
