FIFA President Faces No IOC Probe Over Political Neutrality Claims

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has declined to investigate FIFA President Gianni Infantino following allegations of violating political neutrality rules. The decision means the global soccer body's leader will not face an IOC inquiry over his conduct.

The complaint was lodged by FairSquare, a London-based non-profit organization. FairSquare argued that Infantino's public support for former U.S. President Donald Trump breached the Olympic Charter's principles of political neutrality. The group had formally requested the IOC to examine these alleged violations.

We have confirmed that this complaint only concerns decisions relating to the governance and operation of International Federations (IFs), their relationship with governments and the application of the rules of the sport concerned, including those of the FIFA president.

However, an IOC spokesperson clarified that the ethics committee reviewed the complaint and determined it falls outside the committee's purview. The spokesperson stated that the matter primarily concerns the governance, operations, government relations, and application of regulations within international sports federations, specifically FIFA. Consequently, the IOC asserted that the complaint is not subject to the IOC's Code of Ethics and lies beyond its jurisdiction.
