Filmekimi prepares to meet film lovers with a rich festival lineup

Filmekimi is bringing a substantial selection of acclaimed international films to Turkish audiences this autumn, with screenings scheduled across four cities.

Organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts and sponsored by Paribu, the festival will run in Istanbul from Oct. 9 to 18. It will continue in Ankara from Oct. 15 to 18, then take place simultaneously in Izmir and Mersin from Oct. 22 to 25.

The program features films shown in several Cannes sections, including the main competition, Un Certain Regard, Cannes Premiere and Directors’ Fortnight. Among the highlights is Cristian Mungiu’s “Fjord,” which won the Palme d’Or at the 79th Cannes Film Festival. Starring Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve, the film combines a family drama with a courtroom story focused on cultural conflict, parenthood and polarized societies.

Other selections include Zachary Wigon’s gothic thriller “Victorian Psycho,” Pedro Almodóvar’s “Buruk Noel,” and László Nemes’ “Direniş,” which portrays a symbol of the French Resistance. The lineup also includes films featuring Javier Bardem, Léa Drucker, Mélanie Thierry and Léa Seydoux, as well as works by Ryusuke Hamaguchi, James Gray and Pawel Pawlikowski.

In Istanbul, screenings will take place at Kadıköy Cinema, Atlas 1948, City’s CineWAM Nişantaşı and Paribu Art. Venues in Ankara, Izmir and Mersin include Kızılay Büyülü Fener, Paribu Cineverse MaviBahçe and Paribu Cineverse Forum Mersin. Lale Kart members receive priority sales, while general ticket sales begin through Passo on Oct. 2. Students can buy tickets for 50 lira through the Eczacıbaşı Genç Bilet program.
