Filming Begins for Fourth Season of Hit Croatian Youth Series 'SRAM'

Filming has commenced for the fourth season of 'SRAM', one of Croatia's most-watched youth television series, in Zagreb's Voltino neighborhood. The production marks the beginning of a new chapter for the hit show, which has garnered a significant following over its previous three seasons.

This upcoming season will center on the character Vanessa, with her journey and relationships taking center stage. The narrative will delve into themes of closeness, belonging, and the complexities of growing up. The series' directors and editors emphasized their commitment to adapting the global format to resonate with a local audience, ensuring the stories and characters feel authentic to the Croatian environment.

The biggest challenge in adapting world formats is to localize the original story so that it truly becomes ours, belongs to our environment, our characters, and most importantly, our audience.

Director Jelena Gavrilović highlighted that the fourth season will explore Vanessa's world more deeply, introducing new characters that offer a different perspective on Zagreb. The central plot will revolve around a love story, aiming to discuss contemporary issues of intimacy and belonging. A key question posed this season is the conflict between personal choice in love and the prejudices individuals grow up with.

In the fourth season, we are entering Vanessa's world more deeply for the first time and meeting new characters who open up a slightly different Zagreb for us. The center of the season is a love story that we don't hear so often today, and it's interesting for us to talk about closeness, belonging, and growing up through it. The main question that arises this season is, can we choose whom we love if we cannot choose the prejudices with which we grow up?

Extensive preparation preceded the filming, including months of script development and actor workshops. Producer Bruno Mustić noted that a five-day acting workshop was held to foster connection among the cast, both new and returning members. The series, a Croatian adaptation of the successful Norwegian show 'SKAM', is praised for its authentic depiction of young people's lives and its storytelling approach, which avoids lecturing or sugarcoating.

Filming for the fourth season is scheduled to continue for seven weeks across various locations in Zagreb. The new episodes promise to expand the series' universe with new characters and storylines, further exploring the relationships, friendships, and conflicts that shape Vanessa's coming-of-age.

This season too, as before the first season, we organized a five-day acting workshop before the start of filming during which we held reading and acting rehearsals with the entire acting ensemble outside of Zagreb, but it was equally important for us that new and old members of the ensemble spend time together and connect before coming to the set.
