Films 'Odyssey' and 'Spider-Man 4' surpass 4 million and 7 million viewers

Two major films, "Odyssey" and "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," have achieved significant box office milestones, drawing large audiences in South Korea. As of August 16, "Odyssey," directed by Christopher Nolan, surpassed 4 million viewers, while "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," the latest installment in the popular franchise, crossed the 7 million mark.

"Odyssey" reached its 4 million viewer milestone on its 12th day of release, a pace that outstrips other prominent Korean films released this year, including "The King and the Man," "Hope," and "The Host." The film, which opened on August 5, chronicles the arduous journey of the hero Odysseus, who led the Trojan War to victory, as he strives to return to his wife Penelope and son Telemachus during the king's absence.

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" achieved its 7 million viewer count on its 19th day, making it the fastest film to reach this figure in 2026, surpassing the previous record holder, "The King and the Man," which took 24 days. The film is also nearing the total audience numbers of its predecessors, "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (7.25 million) and "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (7.55 million).

Released on July 29, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is the first sequel in five years. It follows Peter Parker, who is forgotten by everyone following the events of "Spider-Man: No Way Home." He finds himself in deeper turmoil as a mysterious enemy who remembers his identity emerges, and he gains uncontrollable powers due to DNA mutation. The film depicts his fight against new threats to protect his loved ones.
