Finances, Housing, and Health Top Goals for Central Asian Youth

Young people across Eastern Europe and Central Asia prioritize financial security, owning a home, and maintaining good health as their most important life goals, according to a new study. The research, titled "Demographic Future: Results for Eastern Europe and Central Asia," was presented in Bishkek by representatives of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA).

The study also found that a desire for a partner and children is a near-universal priority for young individuals in the region. However, the report raises questions about whether the necessary conditions are in place to support these family aspirations.

Despite potential obstacles, young people in the surveyed countries, aged 18-39, exhibit a notably optimistic outlook. A significant 65 percent reported feeling fairly or very positive about their future. Furthermore, 57 percent believe that young people like themselves have ample opportunities in life, a figure considerably higher than in other regions surveyed.
