Fire at Coupang-occupied Incheon logistics center prompts evacuation of over 3,000

A fire erupted in the basement of a logistics center in Incheon, South Korea, prompting the evacuation of thousands of people. The building, located in the Seo-gu district, houses logistics facilities for several companies, including the e-commerce giant Coupang. The fire started on the first basement level of the Cheongna Logistex Center.

Emergency services responded to the incident after receiving a 119 call around 5:28 PM. Firefighters evacuated approximately 950 individuals from the building, while an additional 2,000 people managed to exit on their own. Fortunately, the fire did not spread significantly and was extinguished by the building's systems within approximately 14 minutes.

Initial reports from the fire department indicated that smoke was emanating from a power distribution panel in the basement mechanical room upon their arrival. The exact cause and circumstances of the fire are currently under investigation. This incident occurred roughly 3 kilometers away from another Coupang logistics center in Seoknam-dong, which experienced a major fire that took 109 hours to extinguish last month.
