Fire at Polish drone factory investigated as terrorism

A fire at a drone factory in southeastern Poland caused damage estimated at at least 25 million kroner and is being investigated as a possible act of terrorism by a foreign intelligence service.

The factory in Skarżysko-Kamienna produces parts for unmanned drones. It was closed when the fire broke out, and no one was injured, although part of the stock went up in flames.

The Krakow prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation. No arrests have been made. If suspects are detained, prosecutors expect charges involving participation in foreign intelligence activities against the Republic of Poland through the commission of a terrorist crime.

Przemysław Nowak, a spokesman for the prosecution service, provided the description of the possible charge to TVN24. The investigation is therefore examining both the fire itself and the possibility that it formed part of an operation linked to a foreign intelligence service.
