Fire breaks out in central Split, engulfing well-known restaurant; thick black smoke covers Riva

A fire erupted in the "Roof 68" restaurant, located in the Turistička palača in central Split, Croatia, on Friday evening. Thick black smoke billowed over the Riva, visible from various parts of the city and causing alarm among residents.

Firefighters received the alert at 9:21 PM and responded with five vehicles and 14 personnel from the Split Public Firefighting Unit, joined by three firefighters from DVD Split with one vehicle. The fire was primarily contained to the restaurant's kitchen. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control, and cleanup operations are underway.

Simultaneously, citizens reported seeing an ambulance pass through the city. However, Tino Milat, a public relations officer for the Split-Dalmatia Police Department, stated that they could not confirm any injuries at this time. "Police officers were dispatched to the scene, as were firefighters, but we currently have no additional information. Firefighters were primarily engaged in the intervention, and police secured the perimeter around the scene. We cannot currently confirm information about any potential injuries," Milat said.
