Fire causes major damage at tomato farm in Ravels

A fire at a tomato cultivation business in Weelde, part of Ravels, caused considerable damage on Friday morning. The blaze originated in a high-voltage cabin adjacent to the greenhouse complex, sending a large plume of black smoke into the air.

Firefighters responded promptly and brought the fire under control relatively quickly. While the greenhouses themselves were not directly impacted, the technical facilities within the cabin suffered extensive damage. This has resulted in a power outage for the entire facility and has disrupted the irrigation system. This disruption is particularly concerning given the current hot weather, which requires the plants to receive ample water.

The exact consequences for the tomato harvest remain uncertain. A technician is scheduled to visit the site as soon as possible to find a solution for the power and irrigation issues. Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire, although one firefighter was treated for heat exposure and taken to the hospital for observation.
