Fire chief: Mt. Stolovi blaze not yet contained

A wildfire raging on Mt. Stolovi in central Serbia remains uncontained, despite the tireless efforts of firefighters. Nedeljko Gagic, head of the Fire and Rescue Unit of the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), confirmed that the blaze has not yet been brought under control.

Approximately 55 personnel are currently on the ground, comprising fire and rescue crews from Kraljevo, Novi Pazar, Prijepolje, Uzice, and Cacak. Volunteer firefighting units are also assisting in the operation. The MUP Helicopter Unit, equipped with a Super Puma H215 helicopter, was deployed earlier in the day to aid in the containment efforts.

According to Gagic, the crews have succeeded in slowing the fire's spread, even while contending with strong winds. "We will continue our efforts throughout the night and into tomorrow. For now, I can say that no structures are at risk, and we will do our best to contain the blaze as soon as possible," Gagic emphasized.

Firefighting operations are expected to persist through the night and into the following day as authorities work to fully extinguish the wildfire. The primary focus remains on preventing the fire from spreading further and ensuring the safety of any nearby structures.
