Fire damages Berlin substation as cause remains unclear

A fire damaged part of an electrical substation in Berlin-Mitte, while a construction site on the same grounds also caught fire.

Police said the blaze broke out shortly before 3 a.m. on Monday. No one was injured, and the electricity supply was not affected.

With assistance from the operator, criminal police are investigating whether the incident involved a criminal act or a technical defect. The report noted that Germany’s power network has recently faced several sabotage attacks, but it did not identify a cause for the Berlin fire.
