Fire Damages Ueckermünde Cultural Storage Building; 30,000 Euros in Damages

A fire significantly damaged the interior of a cultural storage building in Ueckermünde, Germany, on the evening of June 6, 2026. Police are investigating the incident, with initial findings pointing towards a technical defect as the likely cause. The estimated property damage amounts to around 30,000 euros.

Authorities believe a malfunctioning pottery kiln may have sparked the blaze, leading to smoke development and the eventual fire. The Ueckermünde fire department responded swiftly, deploying nine vehicles and 48 personnel to combat the flames. Their rapid response was crucial in preventing the fire from spreading to holiday apartments located on the floors above the storage area.

Fortunately, no individuals were present in the building at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The cultural storage building, a historic half-timbered structure, was intended to become a regional center for art, culture, crafts, and tourism. The "Speicher" association was founded in 1999 with this ambitious goal.
