Firefighter attacked while heading to emergency call

A firefighter from Wildeshausen was attacked on the way to an emergency call in the Oldenburg district. A group of unknown people reportedly blocked the road in front of the 43-year-old’s car as he drove toward the fire station.

The firefighter said the group also struck the vehicle with their hands. After he stopped, an unknown person opened the passenger door and tried to attack him. Despite the open door, he accelerated and managed to escape.

He was shocked but still took part in the emergency response. The attack did not delay the operation.

A spokesperson for the Wildeshausen fire service said emergency crews must be able to reach the fire station and incident location safely. “Our emergency responders were on their way to a possible fire, to save lives or prevent damage, for example. That one of our responders became the target of a threat on the way makes us deeply upset and stunned,” the spokesperson said.
