Firefighters Continue Battling Blaze Above Montenegro's Coast; Aerial Support Deployed

The battle against a significant wildfire continues in Montenegro, with aerial support crucial in combating the flames above Đenovići and Zelenika. Firefighters faced a more manageable night, and the overall situation has stabilized in Herceg Novi and Ulcinj compared to previous days.

Radomir Šćepanović, head of operations for the Directorate for Protection and Rescue of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, reported that while fires did not escalate overnight, teams remain deployed to continue extinguishing efforts, particularly in the Zelenika area. The immediate threat to residential structures has been alleviated.

However, the fire has caused damage in Ulcinj, where a plantation of lemon, pomegranate, and olive trees was destroyed. The full extent of the loss will be assessed once the fire is fully contained and the area is secured.

Despite the progress, the ongoing nature of the fires necessitates continued vigilance. The deployment of aircraft underscores the scale of the challenge, as crews work to fully suppress the remaining hotspots and prevent any resurgence of the blaze.
