Firefighters' video shows battle against Omiš wildfire that killed one and injured 38

Firefighters from the Trogir Volunteer Fire Department have released dramatic footage, captured by a camera on their equipment, showing their fight against a wildfire near Omiš, Croatia. The blaze, which began around 8 p.m. on August 13 in a wooded area near Lokva Rogoznica, was fanned by the wind and spread quickly towards the town.

The fire covered an area approximately 23 kilometers long and 1.5 kilometers wide, consuming around 1,000 hectares. The devastating event resulted in the death of one tourist and left 38 people injured, with 10 requiring hospitalization due to serious health conditions. A significant number of buildings and private vehicles were also destroyed in the fire.

Croatian state prosecutors have ordered an autopsy for the deceased tourist and DNA analysis to determine the cause of death and identity. Authorities are also collecting surveillance camera footage from the affected area and have initiated investigations into the exact cause of the fire, with forensic experts from Zagreb involved in the process.
