Fireworks festival ends, Yeouinaru Station resumes normal service after four-hour bypass

The crowds drawn to Seoul’s 2026 World Fireworks Festival were large enough to force trains to pass through Yeouinaru Station without stopping for about four hours.

Seoul Metro said in a safety alert at around 10:08 p.m. that the measure had ended and trains on all sections of Line 5 were operating normally. The fireworks event took place at Yeouido Hangang Park in Yeongdeungpo District on the 5th.

The station bypass began at about 6:11 p.m. Seoul Metro had initially planned to start it at 7 p.m., but brought the measure forward by roughly 50 minutes as the area became crowded. A possible restriction on access around Noryangjin Station on Line 1 was also announced as crowds grew.

The Korea Railroad Corporation warned at about 7:10 p.m. that access to Exit 9 near the football and baseball stadiums at Noryangjin Station could be limited. In practice, however, the passage was not restricted before or after the event. Police and the organizers estimated that about 530,000 people gathered in the Yeouido area for the fireworks festival.

The bypass of Yeouinaru Station has ended, and Line 5 trains are operating normally across the entire route.
