Firm Rolls Out ILO Programme to Build Nigeria’s SME Trainer Base

Simply Exponential Consult Limited is preparing to roll out the International Labour Organisation’s Start and Improve Your Business Train-the-Trainer programme in Lagos and Abuja, aiming to expand the number of professionals who provide structured support to Nigeria’s small businesses.

Morounfayo Williams, the company’s founder and managing partner and an ILO-certified master trainer, said the programme targets professionals who work with entrepreneurs and small businesses. “It is a two-week hybrid certification initiative designed to build the capacity of professionals who support entrepreneurs and small businesses across Nigeria,” Williams said.

The programme will cover three training packages: Generate Your Business Idea, Start Your Business and Improve Your Business. Participants will also use business simulation games, role plays, life cards and record-keeping exercises. The course includes 12 participant manuals covering business planning, marketing, adult learning and trainer guidance.

Adewale-Smatt Oyerinde, director-general of the Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association, was represented at the event by Adenike Adebayo-Ajala. He said the private sector supported initiatives that strengthen small businesses, create jobs and contribute to economic growth. He also said structured training was especially important in an environment where many small businesses struggle with the fundamentals needed to remain viable.
