First batch of Kwara pilgrims returns from Saudi Arabia

The first contingent of 560 pilgrims from Kwara State, Nigeria, has safely arrived back in Ilorin after participating in the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. The pilgrims landed at the Babatunde Idiagbon International Airport aboard a Max Air flight on Sunday afternoon, accompanied by officials from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.

This year’s Hajj was exceptional. The provision of local meals for pilgrims was a commendable initiative that made the exercise more convenient and memorable for many of us.

Pilgrims shared their gratitude for a successful and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage. Alhaji Uthman Iyanda-Muhammad, the Mufashir Agba of Ilorin, described this year's Hajj as exceptional and commended the Kwara State Government for its commitment to pilgrim welfare. He specifically noted the provision of local meals as a commendable initiative that enhanced the pilgrims' experience.

Other pilgrims echoed these sentiments. Alhaji AbdulGaniy Naallah Pako praised the Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board for seamless arrangements concerning accommodation, feeding, and transportation. Alhaja Saka Rasheedat also expressed appreciation to the state government for ensuring a hitch-free operation. Family members and well-wishers gathered at the airport to celebrate the safe return of their loved ones.

The Kwara State Muslim Pilgrims’ Welfare Board confirmed that the second batch of pilgrims is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday. The board assured that all necessary arrangements have been finalized to ensure a smooth reception and return for the incoming group.
