First cheque run marks new chapter for Middle Fly District

The Middle Fly District in Papua New Guinea has taken a crucial step towards full operational status with the commencement of its first cheque run, officiated by Prime Minister James Marape at Nomad Station. This event signifies a major milestone, as government financial services are now being delivered closer to the people, alleviating the need for residents and public servants to undertake arduous journeys to access basic administrative functions.

Prime Minister Marape's visit to Nomad, the district's designated headquarters, also included the launch of several key development initiatives. These encompass the Nomad Township Development, the Finance Office and its inaugural cheque run, the Middle Fly District Administration Office Complex, the Kiunga-Nomad Road, and the Middle Fly District Solar Project. The establishment of these financial services is anticipated to bolster government operations and enhance service delivery across the district's various rural local level government areas.

For years, the remoteness of Middle Fly and its inadequate road and administrative infrastructure have posed significant challenges for residents seeking government services. The first cheque run transcends a mere financial transaction; it symbolizes the gradual integration of government systems and services into the newly formed district. Prime Minister Marape has consistently emphasized Nomad's strategic importance as a service center, with the government committed to bringing essential services nearer to the scattered and remote populations.
