First large cinema opens in southern Buenos Aires, ending 12km trip for premieres

A new cinema complex has opened in Villa Lugano, marking a significant expansion of entertainment options in the southern districts of Buenos Aires. Located within the Factory Parque Brown commercial center, the venue boasts five screening rooms and can accommodate over 1000 patrons, making it the first major cinema in the area.

Until now, residents of Villa Lugano and surrounding neighborhoods in Comuna 8 had to travel between 8 and 12 kilometers, often using multiple bus routes, to reach the nearest cinemas in areas like Flores or Caballito. The new complex, situated at Av. Fernández de la Cruz 4602, is integrated with more than 80 retail stores, a food court, and other amenities, enhancing the commercial hub's appeal.

City officials highlighted that the cinema's inauguration aims to provide more equitable access to cultural offerings and strengthen Villa Lugano's identity as a recreational destination. It is also expected to create new employment opportunities. The opening is seen as a crucial step in a larger development plan for the south of Buenos Aires, an area increasingly recognized for hosting concerts, international festivals, and sporting events.

During the opening ceremony, Buenos Aires Mayor Jorge Macri emphasized the convenience for local families, stating they no longer need to travel extensively for movie outings. Marcelo Di Mario, Undersecretary of Integration and Development of the South, noted that the cinema fulfills a long-standing demand from residents. The complex is easily accessible via public transport, with several bus lines and the Premetro station located nearby, further solidifying its role in the area's cultural and economic revitalization.

Until today, a family from the south of the city had to travel at least 10 or 12 kilometers to go to the movies. With the opening of these five rooms, they will now be able to enjoy watching a movie a few blocks from their home.
