First LG Department Store President Yoo Soo-nam Dies at 82

Yoo Soo-nam, the inaugural president of LG Department Store, has passed away at the age of 82, marking the end of a significant career in South Korea's retail industry.

Born in Seoul, Yoo graduated from Seoul High School and Yonsei University with a degree in Business Administration. His professional journey began in 1970 when he joined Rakhee Chemical Industrial Corporation, now known as LG Chem. Yoo was instrumental in the Lucky-Goldstar Group's (now LG Group) strategic move into the retail sector, taking the helm as the first president of LG Department Store.

During his tenure, Yoo Soo-nam was a pivotal figure in establishing and expanding LG's presence in the department store market. His leadership was crucial during the formative years of the group's retail division, contributing significantly to its growth and market position.

Jeong Sang-guk, former head of LG Electronics' public relations team and a vice president, confirmed Yoo's passing on the 16th, noting that the former executive died on the 10th. Yoo Soo-nam's legacy is tied to his foundational role in developing LG's retail business, a sector that has become a cornerstone of the conglomerate.
