First professional Santa with Down’s syndrome inducted into International Santa Claus Hall of Fame

Bradley Carlisle has received more than the usual milk and cookies left for Santa. The 37-year-old community theater actor from suburban Atlanta has been inducted into the International Santa Claus Hall of Fame after completing one of the largest Christmas performer schools in the United States.

Carlisle recently gained recognition as the country’s first professional Santa Claus with Down’s syndrome. He first took on the role for children with Down’s syndrome, bringing representation to a holiday character rarely portrayed by someone with the condition.

His honorary induction followed his completion of the Santa academy in late August. Supporters said the distinction recognizes the significance of Carlisle’s arrival on the holiday scene, as well as the representation his work provides.

For Carlisle, the role has quickly grown beyond seasonal performances. His recognition places him among professional Christmas performers while highlighting a broader change in who gets to embody one of the holiday’s most familiar figures.
