First remembrance prayers for Buhari hold Monday

A prayer and remembrance gathering will be held on Monday, July 13, to commemorate the first anniversary of the passing of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. The event was announced by Bashir Ahmad, a former presidential media aide, via his official X account.

Ahmad stated that the gathering aims to honor Buhari's "life, legacy and enduring service" to Nigeria. He described the late president as a leader who served the nation with "commitment, integrity, discipline and patriotism," adding that his contributions to national development are a permanent part of the country's history.

On Monday, July 13th, we will gather in solemn remembrance to honour the life, legacy and enduring service of our late boss, former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, one year after his passing.

Family members, friends, associates, and Nigerians are expected to participate in the prayers and reflections. The statement concluded with a prayer for Allah to grant Buhari eternal rest and forgiveness, and to continue comforting his loved ones and the nation.

Buhari passed away on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 in a London clinic following a prolonged illness. His remains were returned to Nigeria and buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State. He served as Nigeria's democratically elected leader for two terms, from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023, notably becoming the first opposition candidate to defeat an incumbent president in 2015. The remembrance event offers an opportunity for those who knew him and his supporters to reflect on his leadership and contributions.
