Five Arrested in Panama for Gang-Related Crimes in Santa Eduviges

Panamanian authorities have apprehended five individuals in the Santa Eduviges sector as part of "Operation Combate 2," aimed at dismantling a criminal structure allegedly involved in widespread illicit activities. The arrests were executed by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Illicit Association Crimes, supported by auxiliary units from the National Police's Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ).

The apprehended individuals are sought for their alleged involvement in pandering and are linked to a range of serious offenses. These include homicide, drug-related crimes, robbery, theft, and the illegal possession of firearms. The operation targeted specific locations within Santa Eduviges, an area reportedly under the control of the criminal group.

"Operation Combate 2" represents the second phase of a broader investigation initiated on March 6, 2023. The probe focused on identifying and disrupting a gang that has established territorial control within the Tocumen corregimiento, specifically in the Santa Eduviges area. Authorities are continuing their efforts to gather evidence and ensure all members of the alleged criminal organization are brought to justice.

In the coming hours, the arrested individuals will face a Guarantees Court. This judicial process will involve the legalization of their arrests, the formal imputation of charges, and the determination of appropriate precautionary measures.
