Five Azerbaijani citizens killed in drone attack on cargo ships in Sea of Azov

A drone attack on cargo ships in the Sea of Azov has resulted in the deaths of five Azerbaijani citizens and injuries to three others, according to the press service of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The incident took place on the night of June 5 in the Taganrog Bay. The vessels targeted were the 'Natra' and 'Zircon,' which were reportedly sailing from Turkey to Rostov-on-Don. While 25 Azerbaijani citizens were aboard the ships, the vessels themselves were not registered to Azerbaijan.

Following the attack, the injured sailors were transported to the city hospital in Yeysk for treatment. Several officials from the Azerbaijani Embassy in Russia have been dispatched to the location of the incident.

Russian authorities had previously reported intercepting drones, including some over the Sea of Azov, on the day prior to this attack. The Azerbaijani side has informed the Russian Federation about the incident.
