A fire ravaged an apartment in Greifswald on Thursday evening, rendering the residence uninhabitable and causing significant damage to the apartment directly beneath it. The blaze, which broke out in the evening, prompted an immediate response from the fire department.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the apartment owner on suspicion of negligent arson. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as the 50-year-old owner was not present at the time of the fire. A passerby alerted emergency services after noticing smoke emanating from the building.

Firefighters worked swiftly to evacuate the multi-family building and successfully prevented the flames from engulfing the entire structure. The estimated damage from the incident is approximately 80,000 euros. Police are now focused on determining the exact cause of the fire.
