Five injured in multiple crash on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

At least five people were injured in a significant multi-vehicle collision on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway at the Toll Gate area on Sunday. The accident involved a truck, six cars, and two tricycles, affecting a total of 11 individuals.

Three of the injured victims were taken to the General Hospital, Ota, for treatment, while the other two were taken to undisclosed hospitals by their family members.

According to Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), the crash occurred around 11:35 a.m. Of the 11 people involved, eight were male and three were female. Five individuals, including three women and two men, suffered varying degrees of injuries. The remaining occupants escaped the incident without harm.

Three of the injured victims were transported to the General Hospital in Ota for medical treatment. Their family members took the other two injured individuals to separate, undisclosed hospitals. TRACE attributed the cause of the accident to excessive speeding and a critical brake failure. The truck, identified by registration number TRN 71 XB, reportedly lost control after its brakes failed, leading it to collide with other vehicles on the busy highway.
