Five killed in Michigan shooting, suspect found dead, police say

A man suspected of fatally shooting five people in northern Michigan on Friday was found dead following an extensive manhunt, Michigan State Police announced. One victim remained in critical condition at a local hospital.

Authorities were dispatched to a residence in Missaukee County around 11:40 a.m. local time following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered three individuals deceased and a fourth person injured. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Chad Hickman, had already fled the scene before troopers arrived, triggering a large-scale manhunt.

During the search for Hickman, investigators uncovered another deceased victim at a separate residence. Later, law enforcement located Hickman's vehicle near a wooded area by Whitlock Lake. It was in this vicinity that both Hickman and another person were found dead, according to the police statement.

Lieutenant Ashley Miller described the situation as "heartbreaking for the community and challenging for the investigators involved." Police have withheld the names, ages, and genders of the victims, stating that notifications to next of kin were ongoing. The investigation into the sequence of events and the motive behind the shootings is continuing.
