Flag Day in Rosario: Villarruel sits apart from Milei, criticizes spokesperson

Vice President Victoria Villarruel attended Argentina's Flag Day ceremony in Rosario, maintaining a noticeable distance from President Javier Milei and his delegation. Protocol seated Villarruel with provincial authorities from Santa Fe, a move seen as an effort to manage potential tensions between the president and vice president.

Villarruel, who was invited by the Santa Fe government rather than the presidential palace, made her critical stance clear in comments to the press. She stated that presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni "has no more fight against Belgrano's values than Adorni." During the ceremony itself, Villarruel reportedly avoided looking at the Casa Rosada delegation.

The event, held at the Monument to the Flag, drew a diverse crowd including politicians from various factions, military family members who greeted Villarruel, and figures like Lilia Lemoine, a staunch Milei supporter. Also present were provincial deputies and national representatives, reflecting the political landscape.

Notably absent from the national cabinet were Health Minister Mario Lugones, attending a Mercosur meeting in Brazil, and Juan Mahiques, who had just returned from France. The presence of Gustavo Scaglione, owner of Telefé and local media, who chatted with cousins Martín and Eduardo "Lule" Menem, also marked the occasion. President Milei and his sister Karina Milei were received by Governor Maximiliano Pullaro upon their arrival in the city.
