Flooding from Rain Affects Over 50 Homes in Maturín

Heavy rains have caused significant flooding in Maturín, the capital of Venezuela's Monagas state, affecting more than 50 homes. The most severely impacted areas include the Santa Inés I sector, where residents reported water levels rising over 20 centimeters inside their properties.

Residents have voiced frustration, stating that these floods are a frequent occurrence. They attribute the recurring problem to alleged unfinished work on the city's sewer systems. To protect their belongings, families have moved essential items and appliances to higher ground within their homes.

In response to the persistent rainfall and the ongoing flood risks, emergency services, including Civil Protection and the Monagas state Fire Department, have deployed personnel to vulnerable communities. These teams are continuously monitoring high-risk riverbeds and measuring water levels to anticipate and manage potential emergencies.

Authorities recently urged the public to take necessary precautions during the rainy season. Recommendations included using umbrellas and waterproof clothing, driving at reduced speeds, and avoiding flooded streets or areas near streams and ravines. However, the repeated flooding suggests these measures may not be sufficient to address the underlying infrastructure issues.
