Florence Rail Node Sees New Overpass Installed with Ministerial Presence

An ambitious infrastructure project in Florence reached a critical milestone overnight with the installation of the new "Ponte al Pino" road overpass. Transport and Infrastructure Minister Matteo Salvini was present for the operation, which saw the 550-ton structure lifted into place in a single placement using a massive 2,000-ton crane.

This operation is a strategic step towards improving city mobility and enhancing the efficiency of regional and national rail traffic through the Florence node. The successful placement of the new deck is a fundamental stage in the bridge replacement project.

Rail traffic disruptions are in effect until July 30 to allow for the safe completion of the work. High-speed train passengers arriving at Florence Campo di Marte are being rerouted to Santa Maria Novella station via an enhanced shuttle service. Regional train passengers and Italo travelers are directed to a nearby tram stop for transport to Santa Maria Novella.

While the disruptions are managed, some commuters expressed frustration. One commuter from Valdisieve noted that while they understand budget constraints, year-round commuters face consistent issues with delays, cancellations, and overcrowding, now compounded by these temporary measures.
