Florent Manaudou announces retirement from swimming career

Florent Manaudou, the celebrated French swimmer, has officially announced his retirement from the sport. The 35-year-old Olympic gold medalist confirmed his decision on Thursday, stating, "Two years later, that's it, I'm announcing the end." His final competitive appearance will be at a jubilee event in Saint-Denis on Saturday.

Manaudou, whose sister Laure Manaudou is also a renowned swimmer, burst onto the international scene at the 2012 London Olympics, securing an unexpected gold medal in the 50m freestyle. He continued his success with world championship titles and multiple medals, including two bronzes at the Paris Olympics. He notably became the first swimmer in history to win four Olympic medals in the 50m freestyle.

After a brief detour into handball following the Rio Olympics, Manaudou returned to swimming in 2019, adding to his impressive collection of accolades. His career is marked by significant achievements, including a triple win at Kazan in 2015 and his continued presence on the podium in major international competitions.
