Flórián tér overpass to reopen Sunday morning

The northern overpass at Flórián tér is set to reopen to road traffic on Sunday, August 30, marking the completion of the structural renovation of both overpass structures. This reopening is timed to coincide with the start of the school year, allowing for the resumption of normal traffic flow.

Although the main structural work is finished, the contractor will continue with minor repairs and the restoration of the surface intersection. These tasks are expected to be completed by September 17, at which point temporary traffic management elements will be dismantled. Throughout the renovation period, the contractor maintained steady progress despite encountering technical difficulties.

Traffic management strategies implemented during the renovation, such as bus priority measures on Szentendrei út and Pacsirtamező utca, proved effective and will remain in place. These temporary solutions, including a U-turn facility on Pacsirtamező utca, helped manage traffic flow and mitigate difficulties during the construction phase.

The renovation project followed a detailed timeline. Funding was secured in March 2024, with the tender process concluding in October 2024 and the contract signed in December 2024. Preparatory work began in February 2025, with the first phase of renovation, focusing on the southern overpass, starting in March 2025. This phase revealed the southern bridge to be in worse technical condition than anticipated, requiring more complex repairs to the deck.

Following the partial technical handover of the southern bridge in October 2025, traffic resumed on November 15, 2025. The second phase, involving the northern overpass, commenced in late November 2025. Its demolition and structural assessment revealed the need to restore the bridge deck's geometry, another unplanned intervention. Construction continued through winter 2026, with technical readiness exceeding 70% by May 2026 and reaching over 90% by July 2026, leading to the final road surface construction.
