Footballer Tim Payne thanks fans after Instagram followers surge past five million

New Zealand footballer Tim Payne has expressed his overwhelming gratitude to fans after his Instagram following exploded from just over 4,700 to more than 5.2 million in a single week. The 32-year-old defender, who gained prominence during the World Cup, shared a video message thanking supporters, noting that his new follower count now exceeds the population of his home country.

Payne specifically acknowledged the significant support from Argentina and the influence of Argentinian social media personality Valen Scarsini, also known as "elscarso," who apparently initiated a campaign to boost Payne's online presence. "I just want to say a big 'thank you' – words that he said in Spanish – to everyone and I want to let you know that I want to try and give back that favor, I want to try and share the love," Payne stated in his video.
