FOP brings education, health and culture into focus for 2026 homecoming

The Friends of Porus Association (FOP) is gearing up to host its 2026 homecoming celebrations in Manchester, Jamaica, inviting residents, alumni, and the diaspora for a three-day program focused on community betterment. The event, scheduled for July 23-25 under the theme 'Welcome Back – Homecoming 2026,' aims to bolster education, healthcare, and community development initiatives.

Carson Robinson, President of FOP, emphasized that the homecoming transcends mere entertainment. "Our mission has always been to give back to the community in meaningful ways," Robinson stated. "While homecoming is an opportunity for families and friends to reconnect, it is also a platform to invest in our people through education, health and community engagement."

The festivities commence on July 23 with the association's signature student workshop, featuring leadership sessions, a mathematics competition, and the distribution of back-to-school supplies. A new parenting seminar has been added to provide parents with practical tools for supporting their children's development. The following day, July 24, will see the return of the popular Community Street Festival, a family-friendly event with games, giveaways, trivia, food competitions, and live entertainment, including a performance by reggae artist Daniel “Chino” McGregor.

The weekend culminates on July 25 with the organization's annual community health fair, offering essential services such as free health screenings, medical consultations, and back-to-school medical examinations for students. Robinson attributed the FOP's sustained growth to the continuous support from Jamaicans living abroad, whose financial contributions and volunteer efforts have been vital to the foundation's community programs over the last three decades. Later this year, FOP will also celebrate its 30th Anniversary Charity Banquet in New York, honoring its key supporters.
