Fopea condemns hacking of journalist Daniel Santa Cruz's X account

The Argentine Journalism Forum (Fopea) has issued a strong condemnation following the hacking of journalist Daniel Santa Cruz's account on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter. The incident involved the posting of a violent and false message claiming the journalist had died in a shooting.

Fopea expressed concern, noting that this event follows similar attacks on accounts linked to political figures, including deputy Esteban Paulon and Pablo Avelluto. The organization stated its solidarity with Santa Cruz and urged authorities to thoroughly investigate the episode.

"Fopea expresses its solidarity with the colleague and urges authorities to investigate and clarify the episode, especially to prevent false messages that seek to misinform the public, confuse them, and blur the line between truth and falsehood on social media from recurring," the entity said in a statement. Santa Cruz himself only became aware of the hack around midday Sunday when his daughter and son-in-law alerted him, having been unable to use his account earlier in the day.
